The Original Chicago Blues: Part Three
At last! It’s only taken me 10 attempts to upload this video onto YouTube over the last two days. YouTube! What are you playing at? But finally, the Original Chicago Blues Part Three is up. You’ve got to be dedicated to persevere as a blues hound, haven’t you?
This film pinpoints a moment when blues lyrics finally became noticed, so to speak, by the American establishment; when the lyrics of Big Bill Broonzy were read out at President Obama’s 2009 inauguration for the world to hear.
We catch Bill in action then move on to Van Morrison and Them singing their massive 1965 hit, Baby Please Don’t Go, originally recorded by Big Joe Williams in 1935.
After a detour debating the two Sonny Boy Williamsons, it’s footage of the legendary Memphis Slim.
The film might have a stuttery end. I thought its length may have been stopping it uploading, so shortened the film slightly, cutting off the end of the soundtrack. I hope you enjoy it and it adds to your understanding of the original Chicago blues. (The blues they had before Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy, etc.)
