great, Jimmy Page, as you might know, has in recent years been remastering the
entire Led Zeppelin back catalogue. And he’s doing it with a twist. Jimmy’s
been searching the vaults for alternative versions of all the band’s classics,
to be released as a companion disc for each remastered reissue.
Zeppelin’s first three albums, plus never-heard-before versions of most of the
tracks featured on them. Now, in October, Page releases Led Zeppelin’s classic fourth
and fifth albums in remastered form, plus unreleased versions of every track
featured on Led Zeppelin 1V, and its follow up, Houses of the Holy.

“Stairway
to Heaven” recorded at Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studio; whereas the original
was cut at Island’s London studio. There’s also a mandolin/guitar mix of “The
Battle of Evermore” and alternate takes of “Rock & Roll,” “Misty Mountain
Hop” and “Four Sticks”.
the Holy bonus disc have also been lying undisturbed in the Led Zeppelin vaults
for over 40 years. These include in-progress
mixes of “The Ocean” and “Dancing Days,” a guitar mix backing-track for “Over
the Hills and Far Away” and a version of “The Rain Song” minus the piano of
bassist, John Paul Jones.
